Ensemble 212 2011-12 Young Artist Competition
Complete Rules and Regulations:
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be born on or after March 1, 1994 (instrumental categories) or after March 1, 1982 (vocal categories)
- We reserve the right to request proof of age if needed.
- Be a resident of the New York metropolitan area or enrolled in an elementary, junior/senior high school, or any music school, pre-college or college program located in New York City.
- The greater New York metropolitan area is defined as the 5 boroughs of New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange counties of New York State, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris counties of New Jersey, Fairfield county of Connecticut.
- We reserve the right to request proof of residency if needed.
Procedure:
- UPDATE: All applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, February 15, 2012
- Vocal applicants: please check for the availability of orchestral performance material of your selected arias. We will guide you to the best of our abilities to help determine if performing materials are available.
- The final round will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Good Shepherd-Faith Prebyterian Church located at 152 West 66th Street New York, NY 10023 and open to the general public.
- Any applicant who is unable to attend the competition for any reason will be disqualified. No make-ups are allowed.
- The decisions of the jury at every round of the competition are final and beyond appeal.
- Applicants will make provisions for his/her own accompanist.
- Applicants must perform all works from memory.
- Performances that exceed the specified time limit of 25 minutes may be interrupted by the jury.
- Applicants must prepare three copies of the score for the jury. The scores will be returned after the performance.
- Two winners (one instrumentalist and one vocalist) will each be awarded a prize of $250 and will perform with Ensemble 212 under the direction of Yoon Jae Lee on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center in New York City.
- In case the winners cannot perform at the concert, alternates selected by the jury will perform in the winners’ place.
- Winners are ineligible to compete in any other Ensemble 212 Young Artist Competition for the following 2 years. This does not apply to the alternate if he/she does not take the place of the winner.
