About Us
Ensemble 212 (two-one-two) is a vibrant force in New York’s cultural landscape. Since its inception, this premier collective of musicians has earned critical acclaim for performing an eclectic mix of repertoire that spans the Baroque era to the 21st century. Their programming features works by living and lesser-known composers, alternative versions of the standard repertoire and new arrangements and transcriptions by Founder and Artistic Director Yoon Jae Lee.
In 2021, Ensemble 212 pioneered a digital-first model, producing high-quality video productions to expand its reach to global audiences. Their mission is guided by two core initiatives:
- The Young Artist Competition – offering emerging soloists opportunities to perform with a professional orchestra.
- Cultural Convergences – a dynamic series that explores intersections of global art forms and classical music.
Always seeking new ways to deepen audience engagement, Ensemble 212 introduced real-time program notes, providing insights to the music during performances and video presentations.
Ensemble 212’s dedication to artistic excellence has been recognized through features on 105.9 FM WQXR’s Q2 Music program and 93.9 FM WNYC & WQXR’s Salute The Arts (STAR) Initiative. Its work was supported by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
Mission Statement

Vision Statement
Ensemble 212 will redefine the role of the 21st century chamber orchestra by becoming an online gateway for classical music audiences. We will be pioneers for using social media and technology as our primary means to broadcast our artistic output. Our innovative methods will focus on:
- Providing our Young Artist Competition winners a platform to springboard their career.
- Expanding the boundaries of programming with a global menu of traditional and contemporary offerings, focusing on Korea’s musical heritage reflected through our “Cultural Convergences” series.
Ensemble 212 will exemplify musical excellence and continuously evaluate and evolve with the cultural needs of modern society so that we are a reflection of our world.
