Eligibility:

  • Open to applicants of all nationalities born on or after March 1, 2005.
  • We reserve the right to request proof of proof of age from all applicants.

Procedure:

Preliminary Round – Submit application by Sunday, December 17, 2023. Late application deadline is Sunday December 24, 2023.

  • Read the complete rules and regulations and repertoire list carefully to determine eligibility.
  • Applicants ages 14 and under will compete in the Junior Division. Applicants ages 15 to 18 will compete in the Senior Division.
  • Check the Repertoire list to verify that the work you wish to perform is on the list. If applicant wishes to perform any work that is not listed, prior approval must be granted from Ensemble 212. All works are subject to the availability of performance materials (orchestral parts). The applicant and/or the applicant’s parents or legal guardians shall be responsible for any charges incurred for the rental of the performance material and performance rights. This only occurs for works that protected under copyright which are not in the public domain.
  • Complete and submit the application form along with high resolution picture, bio (under 300 words), video link, and the $125 application fee by Sunday, December 17, 2023. If submitting the application after December 17, 2023 the late application fee is $150. Application fees may be paid by personal check, PayPal or Venmo and are non-refundable.
  • The final deadline for all submissions is Sunday, December 24, 2023. All applications must be complete with uploaded media files and application fees paid by 11:59 PM EST.
  • Applicants must perform all works from memory (all rounds).
  • Applicants must perform the work listed on their application form. Any repertoire changes must be approved by Ensemble 212 prior to date of the competition. Applicants attempting to perform a different work without prior approval will be disqualified.
  • Applicants will make provisions for his/her/their own accompanist (all rounds). Piano accompaniment is optional for the preliminary round but highly recommended. Piano accompaniment is required for the Semi-final and Final rounds.
  • Applicants unable to attend the competition for any reason will be disqualified, no make-ups are allowed. (all rounds)
  • The decisions of the jury are final and beyond appeal (all rounds).

Semi-final Rounds – Wednesday, January 10, 2024

  • Up to 24 applicants (12 in each division) will be selected to advance to the semi-final round based on their recorded application. Applicants will be notified by Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
  • Both Junior & Senior Division semi-final rounds will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2024. The location will be announced shortly.
  • Applicants must perform with piano accompaniment. Unaccompanied applicants will result in disqualification.
  • Applicants will be allotted 12 minute slots. The jury reserves the right to interrupt the applicant before their 12 minute slot is complete.

Final Round – Thursday, January 11, 2024

  • Up to 10 applicants (5 in each division) will be selected to advance to the semi-final round. Applicants will be notified after the conclusion of the Semi-final round.
  • The final round will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024. The location will be announced shortly.
  • Applicants should be prepared to perform the work of their choice in its entirety however, the jury reserves the right to interrupt the applicant before the entire performance is complete.
  • Applicants must perform with piano accompaniment. Unaccompanied applicants will result in disqualification.
  • Two overall winners, one from each division (Junior Division 1st prize winner & Senior Division 1st Prize Winner), will be selected to make a video production with Ensemble 212 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Rehearsals with the orchestra will take place during the week of January 28. Winners will be notified of the exact times and dates by email.
  • The winners will be announced on Friday January 12, 2024.
  • Cash prizes will be awarded in each division as follows: 1st Prize winners $250, 2nd Prize winners $200, 3rd Prize winners $100.
  • 1st Prize winners are ineligible to compete in any other Ensemble 212 Young Artist Competition for the following 2 years.
  • All travel and accommodation expenses related to the competition are the responsibility of the applicants. Any visas required for international applicants are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
